haven’t even gotten to the shading on the pine cones yet and already they’re so cute I can’t even. Three shades of green on the pine needles is picky but it really does such an amazing job increasing the dimensionality.

If anyone wants to listen to some “classical*” music in an hour, some of which I’m playing, there is a livestream here!

A video that shows how it moved onstage (and not s A video that shows how it moved onstage (and not so incidentally captures a favorite moment from the show: dancing with @electricm4yhem ) and a few more shots of the finished coat. It was loosely based on McCall’s M7641, but after adding considerable volume to the skirt, removing the underskirt, completely redrafting the sleeves, changing the bodice fit, and making it double-breasted and single-lapeled, I’m going to call it my own. The fabric a light cotton duck in what started as a black &white damask, which i dyed blue. (Would have preferred a slightly more royal and less teal shade, but I’m not mad at it.) I added a removable lapel cover for band purposes (so it doesn’t always have to be tentacular) and used the rest of the silk screened patch to add @ensmb.band name to the sleeves. I’m particularly pleased with the hidden button hole to route the pickup beltpack cable through the skirt without disturbing the flow.

The pants were a simpler project — i remade a pair of thrifted pants into knickerbockers, used sharpie and embroidery to add rainbow pinstripes, and added a patch pocket with the band logo.

Overall: pleased with both the aesthetics and functionality of the whole ensemble.
That was one hell of a night. Thank you to the @dr That was one hell of a night. Thank you to the @dresdendolls for inviting us to be part of their night and putting in an amazing show as always, to @gogolbordello for all their energy and magic, to Roadrunner for being an excellent venue. I’ll make another post with costume construction details but wanted to capture a little of the magic before it faded. I’m still walking on air.

Spent my entire crafting evening hemming the effin Spent my entire crafting evening hemming the effing skirt for this coat properly. I like the tiedyed color of the back of the fabric, and i want to keep the coat lightweight, so I’m not lining the skirt or sleeves. But finger-press, pin, press, pin twill tape, press twill tape to curve, slowwwwwwwwly sew the very outside edge while keeping exact alignment…. was a long process on this much hem. But I’m proud because a few years ago i would not have had the patience or ambition to do it correctly.

Also thinking the skirt/peplum wants to be sliiiightly longer in front.
Happy to be designing this with plenty of time to get it right (…famous last words.) #stagecostumedesign #musiciancostume
